TAX COMPLIANCE

The risks of self-assessment

With businesses and individuals alike now having to calculate their own tax, more and more people are suffering greater pressure with the threat of strict penalties being imposed for non-compliance and missed deadlines.

In the first year of the self-assessment regime alone, over three quarter of a million taxpayers failed to submit their returns on time. And incurred £100 fines as a result. Six months later, about a half of these returns were still outstanding, giving rise to yet more penalties!

Self-assessment has brought with it a greater need for taxpayers to understand the constant stream of tax changes. How else are you to complete the complex returns properly, to ensure you only pay the tax you should pay?

The easy way out, of course, is to let us help you through the minefield of legislation and returns. We will complete your Returns for you ensuring deadlines are met and you pay the correct amount of tax at the correct time.

For more information on how we can help relieve the burden of self-assessment, please contact Beverley Aitken on 01622 213736 or email beverley.aitken@dsh.co.uk.
