than just offering a salary....
For most businesses their workforce
is their most important asset.
Yet surprisingly few employers
look at the way remuneration packages
are structured as a means of retaining
and motivating their people. Simply
hiking up wages is usually not
the best solution - from either
the employees' or employers' point
of view.
Effective remuneration packages
can help reward both employee
and employer by providing a higher
net gain to the employee at an
acceptable cost and increased
loyalty to the business.
With the imminent changes to
the way car benefits are to be
calculated, provision of company
cars is a classic example where
some thought and planning can
save both the employee and employer
many pounds in tax.
But there are other ways with
proven track records. Approved
incentive schemes, share options,
the new enterprise management
incentive scheme and pension planning,
if appropriate, can all be used.
